Whistl Wins Sustainability Award at Direct Commerce Event

October 2024

The Whistl Group, the UK’s leading logistics specialists in e-fulfilment, mail and parcels, has won the Sustainability Award at the 2024 Direct Commerce Awards ceremony.

Each year the Direct Commerce Awards celebrate the success of the best agencies, retailers and suppliers.

Whistl's winning entry covered its significant achievements in what's been a landmark period for the development of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy.

In the previous 18 months the Whistl Group has committed to going net-zero by 2045, released its first annual ESG Report, and had its net-zero targets verified and approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

The 2024 edition of the DCAs formed part of the Direct Commerce Association's Autumn Conference in London. Television personality, Anthea Turner, presented the award to Irene Boctor, Head of ESG & Sustainability for the Group.

Nick Wells, Executive Chairman, Whistl, said: “Many congratulations to the team for being recognised for their hard work and progress in developing our ambitious ESG strategy. As a company we are committed to working with customers and suppliers to ensure that we can all contribute to our goal to become net-zero by 2045.”

What is Whistl's Approach to Sustainability?

The Whistl Group's ESG strategy is "to deliver competitive services for customers whilst enriching our colleagues and communities and minimising our impact on the environment."

Key to delivering on these aims is continuous engagement with clients, employees, local communities, regulators, business partners, suppliers, and the Group's shareholders.

Whistl's ESG strategy is based upon three pillars:

  • Valuing colleagues: "we will embrace diversity and look after our people, recognising and rewarding their contribution."
  • Preserving our natural environment: "we will take action through carbon reduction and sustainable waste practices."
  • Fulfilling opportunities: "we will utilise our resources and relationships to unlock the potential within our employees and local communities."

Implementing more sustainable practices across the entire supply chain is integral to the overall strategy.

To achieve its goals, Whistl has aligned to science-based targets and is taking a pragmatic approach which is broken down into two stages. In the short term, the Group aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 25% by 2030. In the long-term, the ambition is to be net-zero by 2045, all based on Whistl's 2022 baseline.
