Whistl Head of ESG & Sustainability, Irene Boctor, has been ranked 13th in the Motor Transport Decarbonisation Power Players list.

This makes Irene the highest-ranked female in the 2026 recognition of individuals driving practical progress towards a lower-carbon transport industry. It also further highlights our approach to preserving our natural environment through a wider Environmental, Social and Governance strategy.

Recognition of Sustainable Transport Progress

Now in its fifth year, the Motor Transport Decarbonisation Power Players list recognises individuals turning decarbonisation ambitions into practical action.

From 60 nominations, Irene was placed thirteenth on the finalised list of 25 operators. This accolade highlights her contribution to embedding sustainability into our business strategy and the work carried out to accelerate the transition to lower-carbon transport.

Over the past 12 months, Irene has helped translate our decarbonisation ambitions into tangible operational improvements, strengthening carbon reporting and governance, improving data quality through independent verification, and identifying opportunities to reduce emissions across the business.

A particular focus has been supporting the expansion of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) across Whistl’s transport network. The lower-carbon alternative to conventional diesel is helping deliver emissions reductions while longer-term zero-emission technologies continue to develop.

Irene has also worked closely with suppliers and customers to improve emissions transparency and encourage collaboration on carbon reduction initiatives.

Through customer engagement, sales team education and ESG reporting, she has helped raise awareness of sustainable transport and translate complex carbon data into meaningful business insights.

This work supports our wider ambition to achieve net-zero by 2045, demonstrating how a practical, data-led approach to decarbonisation can deliver environmental benefits whilst supporting commercial success.

Irene’s recognition reflects the growing importance of sustainability expertise in the transport sector and the role individuals can play in turning industry-wide ambitions into measurable progress.

What is the Decarbonisation Power Players List?

The Motor Transport Decarbonisation Power Players List recognises individuals from across the transport and logistics sector. Each year an independent judging panel of experts recognises the business leaders powering change, with 2026 witnessing a record level of nominations.

The final list is chosen from a wide range of stakeholders, including HGV operators, vehicle manufacturers, local and national government, infrastructure providers and associations.

Dave Rose, CEO and Founder at Voltloader, topped the list thanks to his work in turning battery electric truck fleets into a commercial reality.

As the number one Power Player, he will enter the Motor Transport Green Heroes gallery.

Similarly, second-placed Tom Williams (Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Maritime Transport), has been influential in the creation of Maritime ZERO, and the rollout of zero emissions trucks and supporting infrastructure.

Decarbonisation is not simply an environmental responsibility; it is an opportunity to improve how we operate, work more closely with our customers and suppliers, and make better-informed business decisions. By combining reliable data with practical measures such as alternative fuels, we can make meaningful progress today whilst continuing to prepare for the technologies of the future.
