Whistl’s Driver Training Team has landed the Fleet Team of the Year award at the UK Fleet Champions Awards, hosted by Brake, the road safety charity.
Whistl Recognised for Improving Road Safety
Our Driver Training Team is based across our North, Central & South East, and South West hubs, and is responsible for delivering significant improvements in fleet safety.
The Fleet Team of the Year award recognises our programme of structured driver training, telematics-led coaching and regular assessments.
By using data to identify risks and target interventions, the team has helped reduce incidents across the network.
The number of incidents fell from 171 in 2023 to 97 in 2025, a reduction of more than 40%. The improvement continued throughout 2025, with incidents per million miles falling by more than 55% between the first and fourth quarters, from 13.87 to 6.17. These results demonstrate the impact of the team’s ongoing commitment to safer driving and continuous improvement.
The team, led by National Transport Training Manager, Graeme Snowball, has also been active in the local communities where Whistl operates. During 2025, it delivered Road Safety Week sessions at three primary schools in Bedford, Bolton and Bristol, helping to raise awareness of road safety among children.
In addition to winning Fleet Team of the Year, Whistl received a Highly Commended recognition in the Dr Will Murray Award for Analysis and Action category, highlighting our wider commitment to using data and insight to improve fleet safety.
Graeme was also shortlisted for Road Risk Manager of the Year with Whistl shortlisted for the Road Safety in the Community award.
On the night, the Whistl team was represented by Graeme, alongside Alan Turney, Steve Gelling, Brian Neilson, Matt Muldowney, Sam Sampat, and John Metcalf. It's also supported by Jason Langford and Richard Hindley (below), who were unable to attend the awards ceremony.

What are the UK Fleet Champions Awards?
The 2026 edition of the UK Fleet Champions Awards took place on Wednesday 30 September at New Dock Hall at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. In total, there were 51 shortlisted organisations and individuals, with the 12 award winners chosen by an independent panel of judges from across the fleet industry.
As referenced by Ross Moorlock, CEO, Brake, "work-related traffic collisions are estimated to contribute to a third of UK road deaths and a fifth of serious injuries."
On the night, Moorlock began proceedings by highlighting this point and the work of Brake’s National Road Victim Service in supporting around 1,000 people across the UK whose lives have been devastated by road death and injury.
We're proud to support Brake, the road safety charity, and its initiatives. The 2026 Road Safety Week takes place between 15 - 21 November.
Congratulations to our Driver Training Team on this well-deserved recognition from Brake, the road safety charity. Their continued commitment to improving driver and fleet safety is delivering measurable results, and this award recognises the important work they do to make our operations safer.
