Celebrating Success: 20 Whistl Employees Earn Apprenticeships

February 2025

Jump to:

We continue to invest in our people with 20 employees marking their apprenticeship qualifications in 2024.

Class of 2024 Recognised in National Apprenticeship Week

The celebration coincides with National Apprenticeship Week, an annual initiative that “brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships and skills to celebrate the value, benefit, and opportunity that they bring.”

Whistl’s Class of 2024 is assembled from all areas of the Group business, including mail and parcels, warehouse and transport operations, contact solutions, cross-border solutions and HR.

Highlighting the breadth of opportunities available at Whistl, qualifications earned included: Express Delivery Sortation Hub Operative (Level 2), Team Leader/Supervisor (Level 3), Software Tester (Level 4), Large Goods Vehicle (LGV), Driver C+E, and Senior Leader (Level 7).

These qualifications are graded from Levels 2-7, with each level representing a different qualification and educational level. The Levels are:

  • Intermediate (Level 2): Equivalent to GCSE standard.

  • Advanced (Level 3): Equivalent to two A-level passes.

  • Higher (Levels 4 and 5): Equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree or a foundation degree.

  • Degree (Levels 6 and 7): Equivalent to an undergraduate or a master's degree.

We are delighted that 20 employees gained apprenticeship qualifications during the past year. It is a great way for colleagues to enhance their career whether they are at entry level or senior management. We are also pleased that we can continue to contribute to the communities where we operate through funding local apprenticeships.

Nick Wells, Executive Chairman Whistl

How Does Whistl Support Apprenticeships?

The Whistl Group has long championed the value of apprenticeships and lifelong learning for its employees and those in the wider community.

In February 2022, it launched the Whistl Apprenticeship Fund. This initiative invites small businesses in the areas where it has sites to apply for funding for their own apprenticeship schemes. This allows companies that would otherwise not be able to fund their own apprenticeships to use the Whistl surplus to meet their training requirements.

A pilot study helped 20 organisations across Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Yorkshire fund Level 2 to Level 5 qualifications.

More recently, Whistl also announced that its employees now have the opportunity to study for an Express Delivery Manager Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship – leading to a BSc (Hons) Degree at the University of West London.
